Unlove yourself
One fine day, some influencer proclaimed "Thou should'st love yourself", and the world has been overflowing with love ever since. Russians have started smiling at tourists, Kohli started politely thanking batsmen for their service once they got out, and the global population reached its peak. While Delhites may disagree, love is now in the air.
However, now is the time to unlove.
Loving oneself has frankly given rise to mediocrity. The feedback loop breaks when you start loving yourself unconditionally. Loving yourself even after selecting Prasidh Krishna in the second test is just plain wrong. Sleeping peacefully after using comic sans font in a formal presentation is repulsive. Consistently losing test matches, but being at peace with it is the reason why a country of 1.4 billion has no major sport achievement to show for. There is an urgent need to be self-critical, and self-aware for the civilization to prosper.
Moreover, some people don't deserve love, not even from themselves. I know it sounds blasphemous in the 21st century where humanity is the god, but why does someone who has invented smart juicer deserve love? Same goes for the creators of abominations like fair and lovely, Houseful 5, and compulsory work from office. We ought to break the bubbles we create in the name of self love, and those unwilling to come out of these self-serving bubbles must not be encouraged.
Any writer or activist would have stopped at this point. However, the true administrator that I am, let's now dive into how to implement this in real life, how exactly does one go about unloving themselves?
The most basic thing one could do is to just go through one's old photos, old writings. That should be repulsive enough to unlove yourself. Those spikes, the selfies in sunglasses inside the bedroom, and the photos with your thumbs in the pockets of your jeans tell the story of a person who did good by not loving himself and letting himself grow. Remember that the cool of today is the cringe of tomorrow. The world moves on, there is a new trend around the corner. Keep running, keep chasing. Postpone the self-love until you've found equilibrium between who you are and who you're trying to become.
This was more on the material side. In the realm of intangibles, just let your thoughts consolidate. All the dark thoughts, the 'bro didn't even hesitate comments' you make in your mind; let them accumulate. You will realise you are a deeply immoral person at your heart, just not worth loving. Hold on to this emotion and course correct.
Additionally, start reading about successful people. See how much they were discontent even with all their accomplishments. Franz Kafka hated his own work so much he asked for it to be burned. And here I am, proudly going public with this. Einstein found that universe was expanding, but just couldn't believe his work that led to this outcome and added up cosmological constant.
At our success level, we shouldn't be too pleased with our awkward selves - the kind that can’t decide if it’s afternoon or evening at 4:30 PM
The best time to unlove ourselves was yesterday. The second best time to do it is now. Be self aware!
Of course, if you’re still reading this, you probably already hate yourself just enough. Welcome to the club.
Blew my mind ❤️
ReplyDeleteBhai Saab, Great Thoughts !! Even though I had opposite thoughts in mind, I still admire your thoughts and way of articulating them.
