Home away from home

Most of us have had to stay in a hostel at some point of our life and there is a lot missed by those who have never had the experience of living in a hostel. Hostel life teaches you so many things, some which remain with you forever and leave a impression upon you, and others which blow away with the passing wind of time. The moments spent there can never be lived anywhere else.
  • When you come out of your room to enjoy the glory of mother nature, you end up finding this instead.

  • Your birthday serves as an occasion for your friends to show their altruistic love for you.

  • You understand why your parents asked you  to close the door of your room while sleeping.

  • You learn to live in peace and harmony with Almighty's other creations.

  • You learn to sleep anywhere, with anyone.

  • You begin to appreciate the art of proper garbage disposal.

  • You learn to savour the private moments even with your room mate around.

  • Your birthday snap looks like a creampie shot.
  • You begin taking care of your shoes more than your books.
  • Even after so much of weirdness around, you end up making friends for life.

The Passengers

There are way too many of us humans around. It is only natural that too many of us meet the remaining of us, creating an inter web of connections, and friendships.  Think about it. When you were a kid, you had friends in your neighborhood, class, and maybe cousins you lived nearby. Then you met new people in College, while working at various places and so on. Some of your friends introduced you to their friends and then you knew more. If the sheer number of people you met and made friends with at various stages of your life were to be added, you could have at least won your colony's elections.  But, are you in touch with all of them now? It was the best of times, it'll be the best of times

There is something oddly satisfying when you advise someone to live in the present. It seems obvious, and the joy of stating the obvious to people is unmatched. Worrying about the past is as useful as expecting a street corner without paan stains. Past is beyond human control as of the 21st century. Similarly, future is yet to come. Letting it affect the present appears to be a lose-lose proposition. However, after interacting with hundreds of self-proclaimed mental health experts, I have come to realise that it is indeed better to live in the past, or future, basically anything but present.
